Navigating our website
Features that will help you navigate our website:

- A menu bar down the left side of every page. Click on a bold section name to expand that part of the menu and view the sub-menu for that section. Click on the sub-menu item to visit your page. You can click on the bold section name again to close that part of the menu if you wish.
- Topic-specific links at the top of the page (beneath the main heading) that are unique to the topic you are in. For example if you are in the land and soil topic the topic links will only display land and soil menu items.

- A related links box on most pages. This box contains links that are related to the information on the web page you are visiting. It is found on the left hand side of the page, below the menu bar.
Main features
- Click on the Environment Waikato logo in the top left of the web page to return home.
- Use the breadcrumb trail located towards the top of the page to see where it is located within the website.
- Search for information in the search box located on every page (upper right).
- Select File >> Print to print a printer-friendly version of the web page.
- Use the Email us button at the top of every page to email an enquiry to the author of the page you are viewing.
- Use the Site map button at the top of every page to view links to the main areas of the website all on one page.
PDF documents
Some documents on this site are Portable Document Format (PDF) files as indicated by the
icon. In this format you can easily view and print the file exactly as it was created, with the same layout and images.
To do this you need software called Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is free and simple to download from from the Adobe website. Please make sure you have the most up to date version of Acrobat reader, older versions may produce errors when opening PDFs downloaded from this website.
To save a PDF file to your computer, place your mouse over link, right click, and select "save target as". Apple Macintosh users select option key and click.

The Acrobat Reader program also has a help function. Click on Help from the menu bar at the top of the screen and then select Reader Guide from the drop down menu.
Viewing large files
The size of a file and its approximate download time are given beside each link like this:
Name of file (675.5 kb, about 3mins to download, 56k modem)
Large PDF files, which can easily be over 500 kb, can take a while to download - particularly if you are using an older computer and have a slow internet connection.
Saving a PDF file onto your computer and opening it like you would any other file is a little faster. To save a PDF file to your computer, place your mouse over the link, right click, and select "save target as". Apple Macintosh users select option key and click.
Word documents
Some documents on this site are MS Word files, as indicated by the
icon. You can open MS Word files using Microsoft Word 97 or later. To save a MS Word document to your computer, place your mouse over the link, right click, and select "save target as". Apple Macintosh users select option key and click.
Access keys
Access keys are shortcut keys that will take you to commonly used pages of the site without needing to use your mouse.
To use these shortcut keys hold down the Alt key (PC) or Control key (Apple Macintosh) and then one of the keys in the table below. You may have to press Enter to confirm your choice (some browsers only).
In the Opera 7 browser press Shift-Esc, release those keys, and then press your chosen access key.
