Dune care code
Use access ways - protect the dunes |
Fences protect plants |
Many of our beaches now have permanent access ways - look for the signs at your local beach. |
On many beaches fences have allowed dune plants to re-establish. Pictured above - Whiritoa dunes 10 years after the fence was installed. |
No plants, no dunes |
Vehicles are for roads, not dunes |
Coastal plants such as pingao hold sand on the dunes. Protect these fragile plants - please use access ways. |
Vehicles destroy dune plants and areas where many shore birds nest. If you are using a vehicle on the beach - stay off the dunes and watch out for birds.

A healthy dune means a healthy beach!
