Background

From July 18 2009 there will be some significant route extentions to Hamilton’s popular Orbiter bus service. The service will travel to north eastern suburbs including Rototuna. Please note that if you previously caught the Orbiter service on Glen Lynne Ave or River Rd - see route change below for your nearest bus stop.

Transfer points

To help passengers easily identify which Orbiter bus stops connect with other bus services, a red ‘Transfer’ sign will be placed on appropriate bus stop poles.

Timetables

The Orbiter Service runs in both directions on weekdays every 15 minutes from 6.15am to 6pm and every 35 minutes from 6pm to 10pm.  Services run every 35 minutes from 6.15am to 8pm Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Times may vary.

Route

The Orbiter stops at all marked bus stops on the route. Please signal the driver.

Clockwise Orbiter route

Lynden Court, Comries Road, Hukanui Road, Peachgrove Road, Wilson Street, Old Farm Road, Knighton Road, Clyde Street, Grey Street, Bridge Street, Angelsea Street, Palmerston Street, Pembroke Street, Selwyn Street, Hospital Campus, Pembroke Street, Ohaupo Road, Kahikatea Drive, Duke Street, Higgins Road, Killarney Road, Whatawhata Road, Newcastle Road, Ellicott Road, Avalon Drive, Tasman Road, Te Kowhai Road, Mahanga Drive, The Base, Mahanga Drive, Te Kowhai Rd, Church Road, Moreland Avenue, Pukete Road, Wairere Drive, north on to River Road to Flagstaff, Discovery Drive, Resolution Drive, Thomas Road,  Hukanui Road, Lynden Court.

Anti-clockwise Orbiter route

(NB This route does not travel into Wintec Avalon Campus or travel down Higgins Road or Duke Street)

Chartwell/Lynden Court

Chartwell Direct (CD), Northerner (30), Chartwell (5), Claudelands (14), Flagstaff (4), Rototuna (16)

Passengers will need to check with the driver which direction the Orbiter bus is going so they don't get onto the bus going the wrong direction.

Woolworths Rototuna

Rototuna (16) and Rototuna Direct.

Northerner (30) will connect with the Orbiter at 212 & 192 Thomas Rd (Clockwise) and Opp 186 & Opp 256 Thomas Rd (Anti-Clockwise). All stops south of Callum Brae Dr on Hukanui Rd, will link with the Orbiter.

Passengers will need to check with the driver, which direction the Orbiter bus is going so they don’t get onto the bus going the wrong direction.

Flagstaff

Passengers will need to check with the driver which direction the Orbiter bus is going so they don't get onto the bus going the wrong direction.

The Base

Change to City Express (55)

Huntly (21) NB only on certain days and times. Check the Huntly timetable for details.

Wintec - Clockwise Only

There is no access in to Wintec Avalon Drive in an anti-clockwise direction due to safety issues. For those who want to go in an anti-clockwise direction they should catch the bus to the Base and change stops on Tasman Road.

For passengers travelling from the Base direction (anti-clockwise) they should travel passed WINTEC and hop off at the next Avalon Drive stop (opposite Rotokauri Rd) and change to the next clockwise stop which goes in to the WINTEC campus. (Need to watch traffic - safety issue.)

Hamilton East-Uni (17) travels down Bridge Street and can stop at the Orbiter stop for an easy transfer.

Buses depart outside Gate 2 on Knighton Road. (NB not at the bus stop inside Gate 1.)

Ruakura (15), University (13), Hamilton East-Uni (17)
