X-treme Waste recycling Whaingaroa

X-treme Waste is a Raglan-based community organisation working to reduce and manage their waste. They sort and process waste, removing as much recyclable product as possible from the waste stream. Since they have been operating, X-treme Waste and the Raglan community have greatly reduced the amount of solid waste leaving Raglan, destined for a landfill.

X-treme Waste is a community organisation based in Raglan (Whaingaroa). Its goal is to establish a waste management system for the Raglan community that’s based on the principles of Zero Waste.

What
X-treme Waste does

Since July 2000 X-treme Waste has undertaken:

  • waste collection – including weekly kerbside collections and collections from businesses
  • waste processing
  • recycling
  • community education on waste
  • research and monitoring of waste management initiatives.

They also manage and maintain the Raglan Refuse Transfer Station. Solid waste that enters the Raglan Transfer Station is sorted, and recyclable material is removed from the waste stream. This has reduced the amount of material destined for a landfill by over 70 percent.
