Projects

Environment Waikato is involved with many projects throughout the region, all aimed at protecting our environment, our health and our economy.

Ranging greatly in size and scale, they cover everything from community care groups to major environmental restoration programmes.

Our Beachcare programme, for example, works with other councils and communities all over the region to reduce the risk of coastal hazards, enhance biodiversity and protect the natural character of our beautiful beaches.

Other projects, like our drive to protect water quality in Lake Taupo, are nationally significant, involving a number of government agencies and community groups.

  • Beachcare - Beachcare groups are involved in caring for beaches around the region.

  • Clean Streams - Encourages and supports farmer efforts to reduce the impacts of farming on waterways.

  • Coromandel Peninsula Blueprint - Integrated planning project for the future of the Coromandel Peninsula.

  • Hamilton Halo - Bringing tui back into Hamilton city.

  • Lake Taupo - Important information for farmers in the Lake Taupo catchment.

  • Landcare groups - Local communities taking action to address environmental issues in their area.

  • Peninsula Project - Improving the health of the environment and reducing flood risks on the Coromandel Peninsula.

  • Pest control operations - Current pest control work being carried out by Environment Waikato.

  • Shore Futures - Integrated catchment planning project for the Kawhia and Aotea catchments.

  • Waikato Regional Transportation Model - Creating a shared transportation model for use across the Waikato region.

We’re out there forming partnerships and taking action in your neighbourhood to protect our region’s natural resources and improve community well-being.

Find out what we're working on and how you can play your part.
